After Purchasing the Yaesu FT-950 and playing with it for a while, I decided to buy a few addons for it. One that interested me was the DVS-6. Here is the actual unit. Not much to it if you ask me but appears to be well built with good quality capacitors and nice workmanship.
After reading about the issues people had installing these units, apparently it is very counterintuitive the way it fits, I decided to document it. Here is the inside of the FT-950 before:
And After....Note the odd position! Humm...
Basicaly one would think it fits like a normal daughterboard would back in the PC world instead it "slips on" facing up as if it is part of the board. This may cause issues if one does not pay attention as the pins can be bent easily as well as, not to state the obvious that the radio can be damaged as well. Bad Design? Well, maybe not. But it is not what I expected either from Yaesu. Overall appears to be a good purchase regardless. Hope this helps out someone out there with an FT-950 and the urge to open it up.
